Boost is a place where our employees can share their insights on money and financial tips on a relatable and personal level.
Often we find that the best way to explain certain financial situations is to share a personal story. We see Boost as an outlet to share these personal experiences with our members who may be faced with the same obstacles.
We believe that together we can learn to save more, be smarter about spending, and wiser about borrowing. When it comes to money, we know that everyone can use a boost.
Our blog includes observations, tricks and tips that a team of writers from Virginia Credit Union have learned along the way.
If you’re a member of Virginia Credit Union, we thank you. If you’re an interested observer, we hope we can interest you in learning
more. Please share your feedback, questions and suggestions with us. See our
Blog Comments Policy.

Hi, I’m Audra! I’m a marketing specialist here at VACU. I joined VACU right out of college at VCU 5 years ago. In that time, I got engaged, married my college sweetheart and had two babies; a girl and a boy. I’ve learned a lot about finances working at the credit union, but even more from navigating these life changes. So I’m excited to share my personal financial journey with you and what I’m learning along the way.
Sylvia is a financial educator at Virginia Credit Union and loves teaching about personal
finances. Her biggest challenge is to “practice what she preaches,” so she's always looking for teachable moments to keep her healthy financially
and to share with others.
Ben works in technology at Virginia Credit Union. While he admits that making good financial decisions hasn’t always come naturally, he’s definitely come a long way. Ben has a two-year-old son and a beautiful librarian wife, and can usually be found watching a Dodgers game or trying to figure out how to get his lawn to look as good as the neighbors’.
DeShonda works as a Teller Manager here at VACU. Her passion has always been talking and writing. In her free time, she can be found doing anything from sitting back reading a good book to zip-lining with friends. Even though life is an adventure, she hopes to be able to share some nuggets that she has learned along the way.
Stephanie is a Lending Advisor at Virginia Credit Union. The middle child of a 7-person family, Stephanie enjoys helping others and bringing people together.
Rex works with the Membership Development Team at Virginia Credit Union. When he's not working, Rex and his wife practice the timely art of living below their means and paying cash for everything. This has enabled them to save for a secure retirement, take annual cruise vacations, and keep their cat, Gypsy, happy and content.
Allison has been an internal auditor with Virginia Credit Union for two years. She has spent the last year planning her wedding in Jamaica with the help of her fiancé, who will be happy to never have to pick out wedding flowers and decorations again. In her free time, Allison enjoys going to the Escape Room with friends, binge watching the newest Netflix show, and being a crazy cat lady.
Hi! My name is Jamie. I started at the credit union as intern in my senior year at VCU (Go RAMS!) and still love it as much as the day I started. I’m a wife and the mother of a teen daughter and pre-teen daughter. If I didn’t work at the credit union, I’d want to work at the Department of Tourism because of how much I love Richmond and all of the incredible activities and people it has to offer.
Hi! I’m Janet and I’ve been a Marketing Specialist at VACU for almost 3 years. In my spare time, I’m chauffeur, equipment manager and head cheerleader for my very three active daughters (teenager and identical pre-teen twins). My co-workers call me a “diva of discounts” for my ability to find discounts, coupons and savings.
Hi! I’m Cierra. I’ve been with VACU for 6 years and I am currently a Support Services Specialist. My family & I really enjoy traveling and pursuing new adventures. My husband calls me the ultimate planner and savings seeker. I enjoy sharing my experiences with hopes of inspiring and helping others.
